Radiesse

Radiesse is a filler that utilizes calcium hydroxyapatite microspheres to stimulate natural collagen production in the skin. It’s unique in that it will immediately plump the skin when the gel is injected, but then it will continue to work as the microspheres stimulate your collagen and elastin.

Radiesse can be used in the face and on the back of the hands to restore volume and plumpness to the skin.

Restylane

Restylane is a family of hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers that can help to restore volume in the face. Restylane is great for:

  • Reducing the appearance of nasolabial folds
  • Plumping the lips
  • Reducing the appearance of dark circles
  • Augmenting the cheeks

There are many different types of Restylane, each formulated to target specific areas of concern. We will help you decide which type is best for your specific concerns.

Sculptra

Sculptra is like Radiesse in that it builds collagen internally. Sculptra uses poly-L-lactic acid to stimulate collagen production and increase volume in the skin. Sculptra was initially developed to help people with AIDS who had experienced extreme loss of volume.

Since it stimulates the body’s own collagen, Sculptra results last for a long time.

Fat Transfer

Fat transfer is the longest-lasting and most natural way to restore volume to the face. Fat is harvested from your own body through liposuction of areas with unwanted fat, most often the abdomen, thighs, or love handles. This fat is then processed and injected into areas of your face that need more volume, such as:

  • Under the eyes
  • Cheeks
  • Chin
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Temples

Fat transfer is often used to augment results from a facelift or eye lift to achieve even better overall results.

Non-Surgical Lip Augmentation

Lip augmentation is one of the most popular non-surgical treatments available. Full, plump lips are in, and if your lips are naturally thin or have become thinner with age, you may want to take steps to achieve the lips you want.

HA fillers are best for lip augmentation. We use Restylane to help patients plump and shape their lips. The treatment itself doesn’t take long, but there will be some recovery time needed. Immediately after your treatment, your lips will swell. Don’t worry – this is not your final result. Wait for a few days, possibly up to a week, for the swelling to subside and you’ll see your new, beautiful, plump lips.

You may also experience some bruising, but this can be managed with arnica and can be concealed with makeup. We also offer laser treatments to help speed bruise healing.

What To Expect

The dermal filler process starts with a consultation. You will talk with the doctor about what you want and why. The doctor will perform an exam and discuss your medical history.

From there, the two of you discuss options to get the results you seek, and if you land on dermal fillers, then the doctor will help you pick the right filler and schedule the appointment.

On that day, we will prepare you for the treatment. Depending on your filler, that preparation may look different (fat grafting is more involved), but we need to get you ready to receive the injections.

The team will use local anesthetics to prevent you from feeling pain or discomfort and then administer the treatment.

Often, you can see results right away, but some patients have a bit of swelling for a few days after the injections.

Once the injections are finished, we will observe you for a short time to ensure you don’t have any type of reaction, and then you can go home.

Before you go, we will discuss aftercare with you. This depends on the extent of the treatment and the type of filler, but mostly, you need to be gentle with your face while it recovers. Other than that, you can get back to regular activity pretty quickly (usually a couple of days).

Benefits of Using Fillers

Fillers are popular because they offer a range of benefits. For starters, they are minimally invasive, meaning you don’t have long recovery times or hospital stays associated with the procedures.

Specifically, they can do a lot for your skin, face shape, and overall aesthetic:

  • Erasing lines and wrinkles
  • Plumping lips and cheeks
  • Lifting cheeks and eyes
  • Sculpting neck and jawlines
  • Looking natural

The Risks of Fillers

Fillers represent minimal risks to most patients. Patients commonly suffer no ill effects, but some side effects and risks do exist.

According to the FDA, these are the most common risks:

  • Rash
  • Bruising
  • Itching
  • Redness
  • Tenderness
  • Pain
  • Swelling

It is also possible for some patients to experience inflammation, raised bumps, infection, sores, or an allergic reaction. If you are still determining the risks, it is always best to consult with Dr. Brown. During your consultation, Dr. Brown will evaluate your current health, medical history, and what medicine you are currently taking. He uses this information to see whether or not you are a suitable candidate.

If you are not considered to be a suitable candidate for dermal fillers, Dr. Brown can offer you safer alternatives to help you look your best and meet your aesthetic goals.

Is It Painful?

The process itself should be pain-free. The team will use local anesthetics to prevent you from feeling the injections.

After the treatment, most people recover with minimal discomfort, but some swelling and soreness are possible. Recovery usually takes a few days for most of the discomfort and swelling to subside.

How Long Does It Last?

This will depend on the fillers you use and your body. For the most part, they last 6 to 12 months. Their efficacy fades gently over time.

Fat transfers are a little different. After the procedure, your body will reabsorb some of the fat. How much varies from person to person. Whatever fat remains after the first six months is usually permanent.
