Facelift in Pensacola, Fl

Board-Certified Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons Serving Pensacola, FL & Mobile, AL

No one can escape the effects of gravity and time. If you are starting to see sagging skin, deep lines, and jowls, a facelift may be able to help you achieve a more youthful look in line with how you feel inside. Nowadays, people are living, working, and being active for longer than ever, and often are caught by surprise when how they look doesn’t match how they actually feel.

A facelift can help tighten loose skin, define the jawline, and smooth deep lines and wrinkles. While it won’t magically make you into a 20-something again, it will take years off your appearance and you’ll look younger, fresher, and more rejuvenated.

If you’re interested in a facelift, please contact Restore Plastic Surgery, led by Dr. Ben Brown, for a consultation by calling 850-500-7527. Our office in Pensacola welcomes patients from across Florida, nearby Mobile, Alabama, and throughout the nation.

What Is a Facelift?

A facelift is a facial surgery procedure that lifts soft tissues that have begun to sag due to gravity and age. Our doctors perform a variety of different facelift techniques personalized to your needs, and will discuss which one is right for you during your consultation.

During a facelift, incisions are created at the hairline and around the ear. Through these incisions, your surgeon will lift and tighten your skin and underlying tissues. Excess skin will be removed, and the result is a sharper jawline, smoother skin, and more youthful appearance.

Types of Facelifts Dr. Brown offers

There are a few different facelift techniques that can be performed based on your goals and needs. These include:

  • SMAS facelift
  • Mini facelift
  • Mid facelift
  • Traditional facelift

Which one is right for you will depend on your goals and the condition of your skin. If your skin is very loose and sagging significantly, you will probably need a more extensive facelift than someone whose skin is still very elastic and hasn't begun to sag as much.

Dr. Brown specializes in a procedure he calls “Triple Facial Rejuvenation,” which combines 3 different procedures to address the 3 main components of facial aging:

  • Surgical facelift to address falling tissues such as jowls and turkey neck
  • Fat transfer to restore lost volume in the face, such as in the cheeks, temples, or under the eyes
  • Laser resurfacing to address skin texture changes such as wrinkles, discoloration, and blemishes

Through this comprehensive procedure, Dr. Brown can achieve greater results than with any of these single procedures used by themselves. When crafting a facial rejuvenation plan, it’s very important to address all aspects of aging, not just one or two, if you want the very best results.

Benefits of a Facelift

No matter how good your skincare, diet, and exercise routine is, eventually your face is going to show your age. Skin will start to droop, wrinkles will form, jowls will appear. While this is a perfectly natural process, many people don’t think that their appearance matches their energy and true spirit. Plus, it’s unfortunate but true that when you look older, you may find yourself passed over for jobs or dates.

A facelift can help take ten to fifteen years off your appearance and align your looks with your self perception. Other benefits of a facelift include:

  • A boost to your self-confidence and self-esteem
  • Natural-looking results
  • Feel more comfortable and confident at work or in the dating pool

When you have a facelift, you’ll still look like yourself, just a more youthful version. Most of the time, the results are so natural that friends and family can’t even tell you had surgery; instead, they’ll think you got a new haircut or went on a really relaxing vacation.

Dr. Brown takes pride in his meticulous attention to detail, and he will do everything in his power to make sure you enjoy the results you wanted. He will speak in detail about what you hope to achieve, and will recommend a facelift procedure or combination of procedures to help you get there.

Potential Candidates for the Facelift Procedure

The best candidates for a facelift:

  • Have significant sagging in the lower face
  • Are over the age of 50
  • Are in general good health and do not smoke
  • Understand the risks and have realistic expectations

A facelift alone typically addresses only the lower face. If you have concerns in the upper face, such as drooping brows or eyelids, you may also benefit from a brow lift or eyelid surgery. Your surgeon will discuss which procedures are most appropriate during your consultation.

Most facelift candidates are over the age of 50; however, this isn’t a hard number. Sometimes people in their 40s can benefit from a mini facelift or even a full facelift. We’ll look at the quality of your skin and the extent of your sagging facial tissue to determine whether you’re a candidate, not your birth certificate.

Is a Facelift Painful?

The facelift procedure should not produce any pain for most patients as most procedures are performed while patients are under general anesthesia. Patients will experience a sleep-like state during their surgery and should not be able to feel any discomfort or pain during treatment.

As the anesthesia wears of, pain and discomfort along with bruising, swelling, and feeling heaviness may occur in the hours after your surgery and during your recovery period. Although these side effects are common, the pain should subside within several weeks. Dr. Brown will inform the best recovery practices for each patient.

Are There Any Side Effects with Facelifts?

As with any other type of surgery, a facelift can come with several risk factors that patients should be aware of. These risks can include:

  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Redness
  • Feeling stiff
  • Tenderness

These common side effects should subside as the skin on your face naturally heals during recovery. If you experience pain that is not improving or infection at any time during your recovery period, contact Dr. Brown. Under his high-quality care, patients will be able to manage any unexpected pain during their recovery.

How Can I Prepare for my Facelift Procedure?

Preparing for your surgery ahead of time can help ease your facelift procedure and recovery process. Before beginning your facelift journey, consider doing the following:

  • Consult with your primary doctor about stopping any medication that may interfere with the facelift procedure
  • Quit smoking
  • Avoid anti-inflammatory and blood-thinning medications to avoid excessive bleeding and bruising
  • Stock up on ice packs
  • Prepare your home for easy mobility during recovery
  • Avoid sun exposure and risk of getting sunburn before your procedure
  • Arrange for transportation to and from your surgery

Recovery After a Facelift

After your facelift, you may have a feeling of uncomfortable tightness. This is normal, and should dissipate fairly quickly. We’ll give you prescription medications for any pain, and you should take it easy for the first few days.

Each patient heals at their own pace, but in general, the timeline for facelift recovery goes like this:

  • Shower after 24 hours
  • Walk as much as possible for the first few days
  • You’ll be bruised for around 1 to 2 weeks, but you should be able to conceal your bruises with makeup after 7 to 10 days
  • Return to work when you feel comfortable doing so. You should be able to return to a desk job within a few days, but many patients take a full week off to allow bruising and swelling to subside before going out in public
  • Resume your regular exercise routine after 1 week

Bruising can be helped along by taking Arnica Montana before and after surgery. We also offer laser treatment to help reduce bruising.

The best ways to maintain your results

A facelift basically resets the clock on your face. After you have a facelift, you will always look younger than if you hadn’t had the facelift. However, a facelift won’t stop the aging process, and eventually your skin will again start to sag and wrinkles will form again.

There are steps you can take to help prolong the effects of your facelift. These include:

  • Maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle
  • Wearing sunscreen every day, and adding a hat and sunglasses when it’s bright out
  • Maintaining a good skincare routine

Eating healthy and getting enough exercise is good for the body in general, and helps to preserve your skin as well. This is the most important factor in making sure your facelift results last as long as possible.

The second most important factor is making sure you have adequate sun protection. UV rays cause skin damage including wrinkles, discoloration, and loss of elasticity, in addition to potentially causing skin cancer. Make sure you wear sunscreen every day.

A good skincare routine can also help ensure your skin stays youthful and beautiful. Skincare can only go so far, so you may want to supplement with non-invasive procedures such as dermal fillers or laser skin treatment as well.
