Recovery from liposuction takes four to six weeks. It may take up to eight before you can resume the most demanding exercises.
During the first few days of liposuction recovery, you will need to limit physical activity. It is a good idea to have a friend or family member help around the house during these first days to allow yourself time to rest.
Most people are able to resume light work responsibilities within five to seven days. It may take up to eight weeks before you can resume physically challenging tasks. It may also be eight weeks before you can resume more advanced and difficult forms of exercise. Light exercise, however, can begin within a day of your procedure.
Exercising After Liposuction
You should start taking several short walks throughout the day within one to two days of liposuction. This helps to improve circulation, reduce swelling, and speed the recovery process. Moving slowly may be necessary at first, but as time passes, you can increase the speed and intensity of your walks to begin adding more cardiovascular benefits.
You will return to our office for follow-up visits during your recovery period. At these visits, we can help you determine when it is safe to add more physically demanding activities to your exercise routine. Starting slow, allowing incisions time to heal, and reducing stress and strain on the body can all help to set a solid foundation for optimizing your new dimensions.
After six to eight weeks, you will likely be okay to resume or take up more physically demanding exercises. While not required to maintain results, a consistent and demanding exercise program can help to enhance liposuction results and can work to produce a much firmer, well-defined, and healthy-looking body.
