Lipo Treatment Areas

There are several reasons fat can accumulate throughout the body. Weight fluctuations, pregnancy, diet and activity levels, and even the simple aging process can add bulk and create a softer, less defined appearance. To make matters worse, common areas for fat accumulation, such as the belly and hips, are often resistant to diet and exercise. No matter how hard you try to sculpt these areas on your own, they may never take on a genuinely desirable shape.

Liposuction removes stubborn deposits of fat from nearly every area of the body, including:

  • Ankles and calves
  • Thighs and hips
  • Belly and low back
  • Upper arms
  • Chest and upper back
  • Neck and chin

However, having several of these areas treated at once is generally not a good idea.

Not for Weight Loss

Liposuction is not intended for weight loss. Instead, it is used to permanently eliminate small fat collections that may obscure underlying definition. While the question of how many areas can be treated during a single liposuction procedure may vary somewhat from person to person, it is not safe to remove significant amounts of fat from even a single area of the body.

If you have multiple areas of your body that concern you, talking to a board-certified plastic surgeon, like Dr. Ben Brown, is the best way to learn how many areas can be treated and how much fat can be removed during a single session. Generally, this is no more than three to four areas and six to eight pounds. During your initial consultation, Dr. Brown will carefully assess your frame to help you determine what may be best for your specific needs.

What About Saggy Skin?

If you have loose and sagging skin in addition to fat accumulations or if skin laxity is a likely result of fat removal, adding a lift or tuck procedure may be necessary. Skin does not always shrink to fit the contours made possible through liposuction. Body procedures, including tummy tuck, can address this common issue. Talking to Dr. Brown about your goals and ultimate desires will help him determine which route is correct for you.
