Am I a Candidate for Breast Surgery?

The best candidates for breast surgery are:

  • At least 18 years old
  • In generally good health
  • Non-smokers
  • Physically and emotionally ready for surgery
  • Able to take time to recover
  • Willing to closely follow pre and postoperative directions
  • Realistic with expectations

There are several considerations when it comes to breast surgery candidacy. The best way to learn if a procedure could help you reach your goals is through a confidential consultation at our Pensacola office.

Is Breast Surgery Safe?

By and large, breast surgery is incredibly safe. Breast procedures such as augmentation and lift have been among the most popular procedures in the United States for decades and complications are rare. During your initial consultation, we will discuss possible complications based on the type of breast surgery you are interested in along with additional factors unique to your anatomy and health.

There are many different types of breast surgery. Each comes with its own risks and benefits. Honest and upfront, we will provide information about risks, precautions, and predicted outcomes to help you determine if breast surgery is a good fit for your needs.

Can I Combine Different Surgeries for My Procedure?

Breast surgery combinations are common. Combining breast surgeries, such as augmentation with lift, can produce remarkable results. Combining body and breast surgeries, such as tummy tuck with breast augmentation or liposuction with a breast lift can also result in incredible transformation. Breast surgeries are typically included in larger procedures such as the mommy makeover and post-weight loss body contouring as well.

Inverted Nipple Correction

If your nipple is flat or concave instead of pointing outwards, we can perform surgery to help release your nipple so that it points outward. Nipple inversion is fairly common, and can occur in both men and women. While the condition is painless and poses no health risk, many people are self-conscious about their nipples and wish that they looked more normal.

If your nipple inversion is severe, surgery is the only way to permanently fix it. Be aware that nipple inversion surgery can cause damage to the milk ducts, so you should only have this surgery if you are not planning to breastfeed in the future.

Nipple Reduction

We also perform nipple reduction surgery if your areolas are overly large. Nipple reduction surgery is a common add-on to breast reduction, breast lift, and breast augmentation surgeries. The areolas can become large and stretched over time, or they may have always been on the large side. If you feel self-conscious about it, nipple reduction surgery can help you to obtain smaller, more proportionate nipples.

Congenital Breast Deformities

Sometimes women develop breasts that turn out to be abnormal in some way. The most common breast deformities are:

  • Tubular (or tuberous) breasts: Women with this condition have long, tube-shaped breasts rather than round breasts. Tuberous breasts have a very distinctive shape that may cause embarrassment in intimate situations or while wearing a swimsuit or lingerie. Tubular breasts can be corrected with techniques that help to create a rounder shape.
  • Asymmetric breasts: Most women have some degree of asymmetry in their breasts, but some may have severe asymmetry that is distinct and noticeable. We can correct asymmetry through careful selection of implants to create the same size in each breast.
